The Curtis Aviation fly-away team on the receiving end of a warm welcome at Frogs Hollow airfield.
Three aircraft, nine crew. Curtis chariots taking a break at Frogs Hollow, just inland from Merimbula on the NSW South Coast.
Calling in for some CTAF practice, we get a birds eye view in C182 OBF approaching Moruya.
LJW taxis in for a student swap and crew change at Moruya aerodrome.
The result of my instructions to look natural and chat away amongst yourselves. Seriously.
PPL Judy and friend Sarah looking forward to discovering Merimbula and surrounds.
Early days of flying for student pilot Brett (left), and lapsed PPL Martin, loving the experience of getting away from the Sydney basin and testing out their nav skills.
Merimbula's Tuscany apartments - fantastic choice of accommodation. HIGHLY recommend it for visiting pilots.
Roomy and comfortable lounge area of one of Tuscany's 3-bedroom apartments. Beach and fab cafe two minutes walk away.
Welcome to Captain Sponge's Magical Oyster Tour! (You never know what you're gonna get on a Curtis fly-away!)
Not an aeroplane in sight - the Curtis crews now happily settled onto Captain Sponge's oyster punt and cruising the serene Pambula Lake.
Seriously no rest for the overworked Curtis instructors. With water views and champagne on hand, Catherine's doing it tough on the aft deck.
A huge thanks to our Merimbula hosts, Suzie & Neil Bourke, for the wonderful itinerary they organised for us.
Jennifer can't believe she's just downed an oyster. (I can't believe we had to convince her.)
Michael and Martin very happy with the trayloads of local product that keep emerging.
Still having a terrible time, Judy, Catherine and Brett sum up the mood of the afternoon.
Captain Sponge in full flight explaining the complexities of the reproductive cycle of the oyster ... or something
Raconteur and all-round great guy, Captain Sponge and his deckie son Henry gave us all a fascinating experience on the lake. Check out magicaloystertours.com.au
With a backdrop of menacing skies, Brett and Sinead happy to be at sea level after a big morning of briefings and flying.
As sunset lands on a nearby ghost gum, nature just sometimes grabs my attention.
Apparently a joy to fly.
Now back to all things aviation, Neil Bourke with his much loved Falco at Frogs Hollow.
Every single Sunday, in rain, hail or shine, the Frogs Hollow members and partners all meet at the airfield for a BBQ.
LJW does it easy. There's a well maintained 900m grass strip to greet you at Frogs Hollow and always a friendly face in the clubhouse.
Kreisha was here too, giving a presentation to members about AvPlan.
Frogs Hollow - a five minute flight from Merimbula. Beautiful. We'll be back - and promise to stay longer next time!
